In The Mind Of Bielsa

THE SECRETS OF THE MAN WHO COULD GUIDE INTER

Here is the Argentinian coach who is a candidate to replace Leonardo.

Moratti admitted first contacts, but then said could be "smoke".

  • Tactics: The preferred formation is the 3-3-1-3 and the wingers are his focus.
  • Transfer market: It is Ricardo Alvarez (Velez) the possible replacement of Sneijder.
  • Family: One of his daughters, Ines, 20 years old, plays in Serie A of hockey.

BIELSA'S INTER

The team will be more dynamic.  The jewel Alvarez at the center of the project.

The coach predicts a type of football with more running and less dribbling.

If Sneijder leaves, then the hunt begins for the talented trequartista of Velez.

Milan - As we are waiting for the yes of Leonardo to PSG but more importantly that of Bielsa to Massimo Moratti, we try to understand the ideas as well as the desires of "Loco" and how they match with the needs on the transfer market of Inter.

Defense If Bielsa really insists on a defense of three, the doubt between Lucio, Ranocchia and Samuel, who just came back from a serious knee injury and a student of Bielsa, must be resolved.  It is related to the fact that can these guys keep up with a more faster opposing strikers?  It is true that in the team, there are also Cordoba and Chivu (Materazzi has met Ghelfi in recent days and he is likely to have an early termination of the contract), but it is not impossible that Bielsa will seek an effort to get Gary Medel, 23 year-old Chilean defender of Seville.  Nicknamed "pitbull", Medel (171 centimeters and 70 kilograms), is much trusted by Bielsa - 30 appearances and scored 3 goals under the man from Rosario with Chile - and very quick and flexible so flexible that he is often used in the midfield.

Midfield More delicate work is needed for the midfield.  According to Moratti, this department needs to be rejuvenated and Bielsa wants more runners than dribblers.  Branca and Ausilio are working on the 19 year-old Brazilian Casemiro as a potential vice-Cambiasso.  In terms of outside midfielders, one of Zanetti and Stankovic will occupy that spot.  On the other side, left of the midfield, the same Medel could play there and not only that, Bielsa sees Arturo Vidal, 24 year-old player of Bayer Leverkusen as a good option.  He, too, is also very fundamental player under Bielsa's Chile and last year, he scored 10 goals at his club.  But on him, there are already the eyes of Bayern Munich.

Trequartista In the drawing of Bielsa's tactics, trequartista is a very important role of the team.  Sneijder would be fine but if the rumors from England materialize (from Chelsea and Manchester United, and Lerby, agent, is expected in Milan), Inter have two names in view.  The first name is Samir Nasri, 24 year-old Frenchman of Arsenal.  In a year, his contract will expire but yesterday the boy's agent, Alain Migliaccio, said: "There are a few teams that on Samir, but it is useless to name names.  We have to meet with Wenger and Arsenal to hear their proposals."  The new name for Inter is Ricardo Alvarez, 23 years old and stands tall at 1.88 meters.  Being approached in recent days by Roma, the jewel of Velez Sarsfield, new champion in Argentina, is liked very much by Bielsa.  But not only.  In the past few months, he has convinced the scouts of Inter and costs much less than Pastore for example.

Attack The only addition for the attack would be Alexis Sanchez.  Nino Maravilla is perfect for the style of Bielsa who not by chance at the World Cup 2010 was betting on him, using him as one of the trio or even as a second striker in the 4-3-1-2.  With him there will be Pazzini and Eto'o who has played two seasons on the left and in an attack that often has three strikers.

The penalized Maicon does not appear to be in this project.  Yesterday, there was even rumor of Manchester City having 18 million ready for him.  It will need much more and there will always be Real Madrid.

THE SECRETS OF 3-3-1-3

The outside midfielders are full-backs.

5 to line up the defense.

In attack, one central striker and 2 wingers.

This question is legitimate.  Isn't the 3-3-1-3 of Marcelo Bielsa is like the well known "bi-zona" of Oronzo Cana?  Do you remember?  The 5-5-5 with "five defenders advance forward and five attackers come back behind and in this general confusion the opponents won't understand anything."  The risk, of course, is that if you don't understand anything about tactics, this formation shouldn't be applied.  The 3-3-1-3, in fact, is more of a way of saying than doing.  In football there are three distinct phases, ball possession, no ball possession, and that so-called transition phase, during which you must try to regain control of the action.  Let's see how Bielsa's 3-3-1-3 addresses these three moments.

Defensive phase This formation of Bielsa has three central backs and two wing backs.  In essence, you have the back "five".  It is sufficient to look at who was playing for his Argentina team in 2002: Pochettino, Samuel and Placente were the "central" defenders and the two outside midfielders alongside with Simeone were Sorin and Zanetti who actually were the two fullbacks.  Those who play as wing-backs must have the technical quality and also the physical strength to basically do two jobs: brave enough cover any holes in the process of non-possession, skilled and ready to regain the ball.

Transitional phase It is the most delicate phase for a team.  If you are not diligent in repositioning, you are likely to give ample space for counterattacking opponents.  Bielsa claims that at this stage, three players must go pressing immediately while others backtrack and build a wall.  Contribution of the strikers is also fundamental who should never stop and are required to puncture and disrupt the disengagement opponents.

Offensive phase Everything revolves around two pivots: the median and the director.  In his Argentina they were Simeone and Veron.  The game should flow to the three strikers (one classic central striker and two fast wingers): constant "cuts" from the wings to the inside and must keep movements alive and they should ensure one-on-one situations often.  In a classical formation of Bielsa, he needs: one goalkeeper, three central defenders, two wingbacks of great athletic ability, a median of all the meetings, a director of all the actions, a striker and two wingers (who often fall back in the midfield).  So small question: do the Inter players have these characteristics?  And the impression is that a trip to the supermarket is needed.

MINISTER AND HOCKEY PLAYER: CRAZY FAMILY

Bielsa's brother was kidnapped and then went to government, the daughter is almost national.  The wife?  Mysterious.

Brother: Rafael Bielsa, right, is the brother of "Loco".  He is 57 years old and was kidnapped and tortured in 1977.  Then, he became a Foreign Minister.

Daughter: The most famous among the daughters of Marcelo Bielsa is Ines.  Play field hockey and is the starting point of the national team, "Las Leones", third place in Beijing.

Sister: Maria Eugenia, the sister of "Loco", is an architect.  Involved in politics, she has been the vice governor of the province of Santa Fé, where there is Rosario.

A grandfather in administrative law.  Also a father as a lawyer.  A brother who was a foreign minister in Argentina after nearly disappeared in the late 70s.  And once, there was a wife as an architect, a specialist in designing the city on a human scale.  And if that's not enough, a daughter is currently on the Argentina field hockey team that, and by the way, is the reigning world champion.  That is the family of Marcelo Bielsa who could be the future coach of Inter.

Brother The Bielsa family grew up in Abasto of Rosario, the city of Che Guevara (but cheering for the Central, the irreconcilable enemy of Newell's where Marcelo later coached).  It was during his short career as a player that Marcelo's brother Rafael got kidnapped and tortured but eventually managed to escape into exile in Spain.  Twenty years later, he became a foreign minister of Nestor Kirchner's Argentina, that president died on October 27, 2010.  He too, as a boy, his life was filled with football.  Legend has it their mother had her children reading Argentinian sports magazine to avoid distractions from books.

Wife With a grandfather, father and brother all, at one time, worked at the courthouse, all would have imagined that Marcelo Bielsa would become a lawyer or a judge.  Not at all.  And for his sister, Maria Eugenia, she was a student at the Faculty of Architecture and now also she, is in politics.  As an architect, her work was all about sustainable development, alternative energy, environmental.

Long live hockey Finally there is Ines.  Three years older than Mercedes, who is currently in school.  "Inu", instead, studied psychology and played in Gymnasia and Esgrima of Rosario and she is twenty years old.

MORATTI FREES LEONARDO

AND BIELSA IS READY TO GO

Contacts for Hiddink and Villas Boas, but the Argentinian remains the chosen one.

Surprise in the evening, the president holds back: "It may just be a fuss."

Milan - The countdown to Bielsa's arrival at Inter is tied to the official farewell of Leonardo.  The chronicle of the next few days is lniked to this very crossroads of destiny.  The Brazilian coach is in Rio de Janeiro waiting the call from Doha to close the agreement with the new owners of PSG.  And the appointment is very close:  Leo has already prepared everything for the new blitz in Qatar.  And as long as those sheiks are not announcing anything, Inter will not move on with its official goodbye to Leonardo.  Moreover, the same with Bielsa as Inter will not be hasty.  He is too waiting for a call from Inter technical director Marco Branca in his villa in Maximo Paz, 50 kilometers from his hometown Rosario.  After the denials on Monday, the president had to tell the truth on Leo so yesterday, he made a reverse.  "I think there have been contacts with Bielsa but not by me.  Leonardo? It was not a surprise because I had been warned in time.  He was completely right.  It is right for him to assess the offers that he has received.  We understand that a career as a coach is something that has to be dealt with with such good will.  But it is not his aspiration for the future.  The best thing is that for him to follow his aspiration and it will be normal for us to seek a new coach."  At the end of the day, back to his office in Milan with a little twist: "Bielsa?  At the end, it might be a big fuss, and things may remain as they are."

Two variables Among the coaches that wanted by Inter, Bielsa is the only one available.  Guardiola and Mourinho are armored by Barcelona and Real Madrid and Villas Boas has a 15 million clause at Porto.  Impossible to arrive is also Guus Hiddink.  The Dutchman, however, is bound to the 7 million (including bonuses) from the Turkish Football Association until June 2012 and Chelsea are already pressing on him.  Without underestimating the fact that the Turkish Football Association does not like meddling in view of the playoffs for the European Championship in 2012.

Leo situation And what about Leo?  The 41 year-old is waiting news from Doha and he is swamped with calls during these hours.  From all over the world.  This is because everybody knows that PSG are about to reborn.  Not in style of Manchester City but by focusing on young players of quality.  For this, the club can now become a direct competitor for three players: Ganso, Lucas and Fernando, all have been approved by the new owners.  Leonardo then will work with the current president Robin Leproux and coach Antoine Komboire who will be sacked if the title doesn't come next year.

I am a massive Bielsa fan and in my books, his tactics will make Inter bite HARD. My only doubt is his coaching ability in a league rather than a tournament. Its a long season and the temperament and personality traits go as far as any tactical genius. On another note, Moratti needs to stop talking to the media, anything he says can hurt the team. Media speculation will always exist, let it be for now. Decisions should be made behind closed doors. The Sanchez deal is also a major factor in the Tevez situation. Interesting summer so far, but Moratti needs to hold his ground and keep his passion as a fan out the door for now.

3 defenders??? Ranocchia is too slow, Lucio and Samuel are too old.
