Inter's Marco Branca Confirms Interest in Valencia's Ever Banega & River Plate's Erik Lamela

Serie A side step up search for new signings as chief reveals desire to bring in Argentine duo and adds that Brazilian full-back Jonathan will arrive at the club next week.

Inter sporting director Marco Branca has revealed that the club are interested in Valencia's Ever Banega and River Plate starlet Erik Lamela.

The Serie A side have long been linked with a swoop for a new midfielder and completed the signing of Velez Sarsfield's Ricky Alvarez on Wednesday. However, they are not done in the transfer market just yet, as Branca confirms that they are keeping tabs on the Argentine duo.

"Banega? We can't say that we're in talks, but there's definitely an interest from our side. Lamela is another player who we are closely following," Branca was quoted as saying by Sky Sport 24.

A report earlier this week claimed Valencia have set a €9 million (£8m) asking price for Banega and Inter could open talks when the player returns from the Copa America.

Branca went on to discuss the potential transfer of Santos full-back Jonathan and confirmed that the Brazilian defender will arrive at the club shortly to agree terms, before denying that the move could cast doubt over the future of Maicon.

He stressed: "Jonathan will arrive here next week. He's not a direct replacement for Maicon, however."

The Italian football association (FIGC) announced on Tuesday that Italian clubs are allowed to sign two non-EU players from abroad with immediate effect, thus broadening Inter's options in the South American market.
