The Crisis: Re-Establish Inter

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 1:57 AM

THE CRISIS: AFTER THE TWO THUMPS IN THE DERBY AND THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

The cycle, miracles aside, seems to be closed.  The team is due for a renewal.

Here is who can stay and who can go.  But the first node concerns the coaching position.

INTER: WHO STAYS AND WHO GOES?

Eto'o and Lucio are untouchable.  Pazzini is the future.

Cash for Maicon.  Coutinho must get experience and could fall into negotiations for Sanchez.

Julio Cesar

Status: Uncertain Age: 31 Games played: 30 Minutes played: 2630 Average rating: 6.33

Two mistakes against Bayern: remedied.  He would like to say but there is Viviano.  Inter will buy the other half of the Bologna keeper by paying a much bigger economic proposal.  If Manchester United is calling, what will Inter do?  They could listen because Viviano (not a sub) is the future.

Cristian Chivu

Status: Uncertain Age: 30 Games played: 32 Minutes played: 2694 Average rating: 5.625

You can toss out his alternative role.  In Romania, people say that he wants the immediate future as a central defender and no more as a left-back.  But he just can not offer Inter with security so they could begin to consider offers for him.

Lucio

Status: Staying Age: 32 Games played: 37 Minutes played: 3224 Average rating: 5.986

He is one of the untouchables.  Inter are ready for him a new contract although he had a few words on a return to Bayern but he has clarified.  Inter will have Lucio and Lucio will have Inter: Samuel, Ranocchia and he represent one of the best defensive line in world football.

Maicon

Status: Uncertain Age: 29 Games played: 35 Minutes played: 3115 Average rating: 5.786

Ideal is to get cash, although it will be less than a summer ago (and this is a regret for Inter.  For Maicon, he has only been convincing in January and February.  Mourinho is still dreaming of him, but in case of a transfer Inter could not replace him with only Zanetti or Nagatomo.  Watch out for Criscito on the left, Nagatomo or Santon on the right.

Nagatomo

Status: Staying Age: 24 Games played: 9 Minutes played: 391 Average rating: 5.928

Inter are expected to buy him by paying Cesena 4 million euros.  He is a prospect and can play left, right or even as winger.  And he has been properly inserted into the Inter system without hesitation or trauma.  His flexibility is very appreciated by Inter and over time (maybe with Maicon leaving?) he can find even more space.

Walter Samuel

Status: Staying Age: 33 Games played: 13 Minutes played: 1118 Average rating: 6.115

"I hope to return before the end of the season," he said.  Everybody is waiting for him and all of us expect to see him as a piller for the future like he was in the past.  The important thing is for him is to recover completly and accurately after the operation like he did following his first injury.

Ranocchia

Status: Staying Age: 23 Games played: 16 Minutes played: 1352 Average rating: 6.133

Starting with him and Pazzini, the reorganization of the future Inter has begun: more Italians.  He has been proven that he can play at a high level right away.  He deserves to be on a team that aspires to the maximum because he is the ultimate expression of our local school defenders.

Zanetti

Status: Staying Age: 37 Games played: 41 Minutes played: 3635 Average rating: 5.987

He is staying, of course.  Year by year, his driving force will be monitored for the time being, and even today, makes him the most active and responsive even at the last minute of each game.  For the upcoming years, he will be Inter captain because he is the image of Inter.

Leonardo

Status: Uncertain Age: 41 Games managed: 21 (15 wins, 1 draw, 5 defeats) Average rating: 6.047

Collapsing in the climax.  A hole that dos not erase the comeback from -13 to -2, but in his head, there are a thousand doubts.  Moratti has no intention to let him go but he is wondering what will Leonardo be for the next year on his contract: on the bench or as a director to look for a Pato or a Ganso.  It will be his choice.  If Leonardo leaves, Guardiola will be in the pole position.  He has an agreement until 2012 but...  Also Villas Boas is liked very much.

Cambiasso

Status: Staying Age: 30 Games played: 37 Minutes played: 3047 Average rating: 6.194

There should be no discussions about his stay.  The needed discussions should concern about where he will be placed: inside, outside but in front of the defense, he is more dynamic and reactive than Thiago Motta.  If he stays, that is where he should be.

Stankovic

Status: Staying Age: 32 Games played: 33 Minutes played: 2251 Average rating: 6.359

The strength to never give up is his stamp at Inter: the flexibility, the energy, and the desire are his valuable qualities.  But at 33 years old, he certainly can not be a starter.

Pandev

Status: Uncertain Age: 27 Games played: 36 Minutes played: 2452 Average rating: 5.597

He says that "I don't want to leave here."  Inter will not say not but it is right to think that after the goal at the Allianz Arena, he is even more likely to be on the market than before: Bayern and England like him.  And the uncertainty also arises from the future offensive signing such as Castaignos.

Coutinho

Status: Leaving Age: 18 Games played: 18 Minutes played: 972 Average rating: 5.777

If Inter believe in him, and for now ther are signs against it, they would have played him more regularly.  To Cou, minutes are needed for him to have real tests.  He can be in the deal for Sanchez with Udinese and Guidolin doesn't mind it at all.

Thiago Motta

Status: Uncertain Age: 28 Games played: 22 Minutes played 1733 Average rating: 5.772

Has tactical intelligence.  But in front of the defense, he has not been convincing.  He is more lethal on the side but he has been there less and less.  Inter, undoubtedly, will be searching for a new look for the midfield.  Two of Fabregas, Montolivo, Parolo, Della Rocca and Poli will come and for Thiago, it is uncertain.

Pazzini

Status: Staying Age: 26 Games played: 11 Minutes played: 864 Average rating: 6.227

The big signing in January is only at the beginning: all of his six goals worth three points.  This is the process of Italianization of Inter.  Next year he will be available for the Champions League and he is the striker for the national team.  Without question, he is the future of Inter.

Kharja

Status: Uncertain Age: 28 Games played: 13 Minutes played: 539 Average rating: 6

At the level of the Champions League, he's proven to have more transparency than substance.  We think that Inter can still buy him in June but first, they will try to figure out how many midfielders that they can take and especially they need to see if Kharja can confirm his positive impact in the league.

Eto'o

Status: Staying Age: 30 Games played: 43 Minutes played: 3813 Average rating: 6.627

It's up to him.  He will do what he loves.  But there is Inter who consider him as untouchable.  Eto'o is the strongest striker at the moment after Messi.  His salary is high at 10 million and the financial fair play could inject even more doubt.

Sneijder

Status: Uncertain Age: 26 Games played: 33 Minutes played 2717 Average rating: 5.921

Has a contract until 2015 but has been shaky and nervous in recent times and therefore his performances have been affected.  Moratti loves him but watch out for United's pounds.  The arrival of Sanchez may annoy him with Sahin also on the horizon.

Milito

Status: Uncertain Age: 31 Games played: 24 Minutes played: 1645 Average rating: 5.625

He's back with a goal and effectiveness like a year ago.  But this still leaves many doubts after a troubled season.  Some are very complex but some can be very simple: can he accept to compete with Pazzini next year in both Serie A and the Champions League?  Good question, no answer for now.

No no don't get me wrong. We do need fresh players especially in the midfield. But most of those listed as uncertain are exagerated. Why should we get rid of sneijder and cesar? Two of the most important players we have

The Gazzetta dello Sport says it best: "The cycle is closed. The team is due for a renewal."

Banx you should look at the Inter squad. Its the oldest in Serie A. The peak of 2010 is long gone. The trend is now downward. The team needs to be rejuvenated.

Cmon, we have 4 bad days and suddenly we need to change all the players who won the treble 1 YEAR ago??

Italian jurnoalists were itching to find a scenario where they could say CRISI INTER because it has been so many years. I still don't agree they are in a crisis. They are tired, the attacking formation does not help the defence, and we missed Lucio very much these two games, not to mention Samuel the whole season.

No way Inter should entertain selling Sneijder. He's the most creative player in the squad and Inter strggle to create when he's not there. If there was a worthy replacement maybe, but I don't see it.

Everyone has a price. as long as we keep zanetti, cambiasso, and etoo, Inter should be fine.

Sneijder, will be hard to think the possibility of him to change shirt but if there're big offer coming, I think Mr. Moratti should consider it seriously IF he would like to spend on some big name.

everything apart from coutinho makes sense, unless it's a loan

It should be a loan move.

I think we are over dramatizing here, we knew this was coming since we won everything last year and had a world cup at the same summer ... players are exhausted mentally and physically ,, the backups are not good enough ( Biabiany, Coutinho, Muntari) ,, we had a disastrous coach Benitez, who lost control of the dressing room filled with champions and reasonable men ,, Leonardo played to win in all fronts instead of doing it the Mourinho way in Real Madrid, in which he choose to focus only on the Champions league throwing away his 9 years home record just to whoop Tottenham ... The solution in my opinion is to bring class players such as Montolivo, Sanchez and Cricito... lose the oldies Matterazi, Cordoba, .. if we could bring Guardioula or Mourinho to work with Leonardo would be great .. and a good summer rest will do the trick
