Inter Transfer Summary - Analysis

22/5/2010 - Final Madrid, Inter beat Bayern 2-0 and everything was just perfect, then José Mourinho stayed at Madrid for his new challenge of training Real Madrid. Massimo Moratti signed a new coach, one that in my opinion is at the same level of Mourinho, his name was Rafa Benitez, in fact he started well with a 3-1 victory over Roma at the Giuseppe Meazza for the Italian Supercup, the Spanish tried to practice Total Football, wide and with a lot of physical trainning with a squad with players 29 years average. He asked for reinforcements but Moratti insisted that the team was complete, was it?

18/12/2010 - FIFA Clubs World Cup - Inter Campioni del Mondo: Benitez asked again for reinforcements and ... he got sacked. Arrived Leonardo and he took care of the squad playing with a 4-3-1-2 the appropriate formation for the squad but the Champions League game against Schalke showed that he wasn't the coach for Inter.

And now arrived Gasperini with his new ideas of beautiful football and Moratti didn't commit the same errors and bought several players: Castaignos, Jonathan, Ricky Alvarez, Andrea Poli, Diego Forlan and the last one Mauro Zarate. Some of then are quality that is guaranteed but others need to improve but let's see one by one.

Luc Castaignos - 18 years old, next Henry? Maybe, but needs to improve so much, especially in physique and I saw that against Celtic. He is Dutch so he easily adapts well to other championships, loan deal never.  Inter only have Milito, Pazzini to middle because Forlan will be a Winger on the 3-4-3 of Gasperini. I rate 6 in 1 to 10 scale, cheap and good quality so far.

Jonathan - 25 years old, Brazilian. I've seen very little of him but judging what I saw he is ... average, at Maicon's level? Not by a long shot still needs to improve. In defense he seems solid but offensively I need to see more, but for now Nagatomo is on front of him. Rate: ?? We'll see

Ricky Alvarez - 23 years old, Argentinean. The quality is there but still too slow and needs to improve that point, to play as trequartista is fine but for winger never. He, more like Sneijder, prefers a technique style but watch out for Coutinho U-20 World Champion and in my opinion our best youth talent. Rate: 6 Also need to see more.

Andrea Poli - 21 years old, Italian. Just what we need a midfield with creative and defensive characteristics if he plays with Cambiasso it will be a tapon in the midfield and move Sneijder to Trequartista. We have already see him play for Sampdoria so... Rate him 7

Diego Forlan - 32 years old, Uruguayan. He is a veteran, great player, very versatile that can play on the wing/center. He and Zarate are the best purchases. Rate: 8

Mauro Zarate - 24 years old, Argentinean. Another Argentinean and just what Inter need a fast and technical player who fits well in Gasperini sistem of 3-4-3. Rate:8

honestly, at first i dont know if forlan could bring any difference. but remembering he used to be a captain so he'll bring his 'captaincy' attitude to inter which is calm and never give up just like Zanetti. im sure he'll do something in a big match cos he got the right mentality

I give this mercato a 7/10. I was expecting another midfielder but unfortunately none has arrived.

Overall: I would give transfer market team a solid 7.5. Well done.

Agree with most of it. Very difficult to rate Alvarez and Castaignos, as they are for the future, and still could be all or nothing.

Jonathan has looked very promising in my eyes. Poli, Forlan and Zarate are fantastic buys!
