BENITEZ OUT!

SENSATIONAL TURNING POINT: THE COACH OF INTER CAN NOW MOVE ON

Moratti has decided.  Spalletti in pole position.  Leonardo è an alternative.

The president: "An improper venting."  Materazzi also downs the manager.

INTER, MOVE ON TO ANOTHER

Inappropriate outbursts, problems with the players.  So from Moratti a goodbye has arrived to Benitez.

The president does not forgive the coach and his attacks against Moratti in Abu Dhabi: "At the moment, I'm not talking about him."

Abu Dhabi - Just one sentence but very similar to the one that placed on the tombstone of the relationship between Moratti and Benitez.  "At the moment, I am not talking about him," said Moratti yesterday and based on "at the moment" we smell the ruthless detachment from the coach, "quiet before the storm" is already programmed.  But then Moratti did not see the group later on on Saturday but his son, Angelomario was there, and as he heard Benitez's statement for the first time he was in disbelief and then with anger he said: "Did he (Benitez) really say that?"  Yes, Benitez did really say it.  So Moratti yesterday replied: "No, he did not ruin the party but it was an inappropriate moment to say these things because this is a happy moment and the Inter fans are happy.  These days we only think about happiness."

January party Moratti has always found a sense of what to do for Inter and with Inter in the joy of the fans: imagine the moment after Madrid, imagine the departure of Mourinho, but also the phrases of Milito which had darkened a bit of that perfect night.  Moratti has forgiven Mourinho and Milito quickly and it is possible that he will do the same with Rafa.  Today the president is not disturbed to the point of not wanting to be happy for heaven's sake.  "I'm very happy with this victory and god forbid if something went wrong.  We are thinking of doing something big to celebrate this victory with the fans."  But in these hours Moratti feels that even he, the number one Inter fan, can not afford to be only happy but he must also take the steps that he has prepared but has yet to do.

This time, no brake The goodbye for Benitez has been in the air around us for days.  Remember when Moratti was asked if Benitez's future depended on winning the World Cup and he said "we'll see."  Now he is facing the prospect that the exemption has been slowed several times, certainly before and after the defeat in Bremen.  The ball was already at the door and in the end he will push Benitez out of it, without waiting for him to solve the problems.  Before the ultimatum from the coach, Moratti was prepared to sign the divorce but he wasn't sure.  He still had a little hope to find within himself and within Inter that enough to persuade him to continue going forward with Benitez.  But on Saturday, he's heard and understood that he can not go forward.

Hit and irritated Moratti has felt the weight of those heavy phrases of Bentiez, the arrogance of unexpected tones, the inadequacy of context and deliberately chosen the time for decision.  Moratti was hit and deeply irritated.  He feels constrained to divorce this marriage.  He understands that a single victory, even thought it was important, can not erase the months of feeling never been born, for him and the team.  The thermometer was off the chart on Saturday night in the dressing room, not just because the faces of Stankovic and Materazzi: the words of Benitez on "control the players" were only a further closing of the circle.

NOW, THERE'S A DILEMMA

It's either Spalletti or Leonardo.

Contacted the coach of Zenit but Moratti also likes the idea of the Brazilian.  Zenga is also in contention.

Milan - Spalletti or Leonardo? This is the dilemma for Massimo Moratti.  An angry number one Inter prefers to avoid difficult choices for the new coach.  The indictment of Benitez in Abu Dhabi and his break with the Spanish first requires him to define the terms of the divorce.  Meanwhile, Rafa left yesterday to see  his family in Liverpool, while Moratti is now in Spain for commitments in Saras.  Marco Branca will continue the negotiations in progress.

Pole for Spalletti It is no secret that the coach of Zenit has had contact with the leaders of Inter in recent weeks.  Signals are shown.  The work to strengthen the team in St. Petersburg received a strange slow down: for examples Criscito of Genoa and Fiorentina's Felipe.  But that's not all.  The coach of Certaldo has a sort of moral commitment with Zenit to let him go if there is an offer from Italy.  Only signs however but it is needed to understand that if Moratti decided for a medium-term solution, the name Spalletti is certainly the most supported.  Even if the plan would be to maintain a diplomatic relationship with Gazpom, the Zenit's leader.  Anyway, Moratti does not want to influence that much from the shattering of Bentiez.  The real risk is the rush that can make him make a wrong choice...

The alternative So in the thoughts of Inter number one there is little room for Fabio Capello.  He might has to wait for Pep Guardiola who is now torn between the allurements from Chelsea and a new contract renewal from Barcelona.  Looking in this direction, the name that inspires Massimo is Leonardo.  In his eyes, he had a good season with the Rossoneri but he also showed the personality with which he faced the criticism from Berlusconi.  Thus, the Brazilian seems to be preferred to another alternative in Walter Zenga.  Or Beppe Baresi whose name is being combined with Luis Figo.  Certainly Moratti will be close to this team as new year approaching.

Tracking Ranocchia The new Inter coach will move forward expeditiously to find a replacement for the injured Samuel.  It is imminent that another meeting will take place between Moratti and Preziosi to define the terms for Ranocchia.  The center back is owned by two clubs and Genoa president is asking for 12 million to free him immediately.  In fact, yesterday before the derby, Preziosi made it clear that he doesn't want to sell Ranocchia in January.  But if Moratti decided to raise the offer? Currently the Nerazzurri's offer is at 8 million.  Perhaps a further rise is on the horizon in an attempt to convince the Rossoblu president.

BENITEZ'S HEAD

Under fire so Rafa was going to resign.

The blame for the injuries, the joints of the players in the gym, the lack of consideration, the criticism of Moratti so the coach has exploded.

Rafa story: The gym, the 2005 cup and the socks.

  • No tools: The gym as Rafa wants control.
  • The insult to Milan: In 2005, Benitez took the Champions League away from Milan on penalties.
  • Good luck charm: The South Park socks are his amulet.

Abu Dhabi - This relationship was never born.  The relationship between a president and a post-Mourinho much sought coach is ended.  And for all of this, Rafa is on fire.  Benitez is being thought of as a self-replicating person and not the one that won 2 La Liga, one FA cup, then the Community Shield, the Italian Super Cup, the UEFA cup, the European Super Cup, the Champions League and the Club World Cup.  That is why Rafa has exploded with anger.  The anger of a coach who has felt ignored on the market and de-legitimized by Moratti.  This is the story and the rest is a background and a call by Moratti should be there in a few hours.  To bring down the curtain.

Resignation Benitez was welcomed back at Malpensa with "stay with us" from the Inter fans.  He also found himself back in Italy without talking to the leaders but with the thoughts on seismic.  The same people who tormented him just after the triumph: the "management will decide" line is for him an accusation.  "The team will decide, and if it doesn't want what I want then I will speak with my attorney," was his refrain.  And the voice of his agent was heard: "Beniez is staying at Inter at 100%.  He told me that he is calm."  Evidently, calmness was not shown by his outbursts after the game.  It seems that after the humiliation in Bremen, Benitez would just need to tell Moratti that his outbursts are imminent.  And maybe that is why they began to leave voices of "expulsion" of Rafa even after victories.

All on vacation: Back in the cold of Malpensa.

  • Fans incite Rafa: Rafa Benitez salutes the fans from the bus after arrived from Abu Dhabi.  The coach is then directed to Pinetina.
  • Away quickly: Towards the holidays.  Marco Materazzi, Luca Castellazzi and Wesley Sneijder off the bus.
  • The arrival: The Inter bus arrives at Terminal 2 of Malpensa greeted by hundred supporters in the cold.
  • Disappointed: Marco Materazzi salutes before leaving for the holidays.  The plane from Abu Dhabi landed in Malpensa at around 6:30 am.

Writing a book The relationship between Moratti and Rafa started to deteriorate when the players are repeatedly injured.  "All these muscle injuries trouble me," said Moratti.  After London ("No character"), after the derby ("Inter didn't play."), or even after the Bremen game ("The future of Benitez? We'll see.") and pre Abu Dhabi ("We are here to win.").  Rafa has blurted out in recent weeks and has privately told his friends the anger over the non-response to Milan on the market after the acquisition of Ibrahimovic, and confided that he could write a book on these troubled months.

Don't open that door In all of this, however, we are now standing at the 43rd injury for Inter this season (Sneijder's) with Rafa reveals the hidden leaks in the gym of the players (with Mourinho before and with him after) because "they can no longer do certain things."  Benitez was looking for other ways to strengthen the players' bodies with more work load.  Now we can say the famous exit quote of Rafa: "Those who talk about preparation or training as a cause of injuries are ignorant," another phrase that embarrassed Moratti.

How many of you wish Maicon had gone to Real Madrid now? I certainly do. At least in that case, Morrati may have spent some of that large amount of incoming cash. And we wouldn't have had to put up with Maicon's season long pouting. 40M for a 30 year old player? Yes, every time! Maicon was fantastic last season, but a player who thrives on power declines quickly after 30 years old 90% of the time. Easily replaceable in my opinion.

Just out of curiosity... do you believe that Cassano is now a Milan player? There are no official announcements yet but do you believe it?

And you shouldn't read news if you only believe in official announcements from Inter.it. And about Maicon, he was close to Real and it was well documented but there were no sources said that "Maicon is a Real Madrid player". None.

SacT0wnF1n3st says...
Not only Gazzetta is the biggest and the most reliable sporting newspaper in Italy, sources like Corriere dello Sport, Sky, Mideaset, Sky Sport for English, have reported that he is on the way out. Reliable if you ask me.

Reliable is going to inter.it and seeing on the front page that Rafa is no longer our coach. I'm sure that this will happen pretty soon but I think this was a case of the journo taking something that was said and blowing it a bit out of proportion... do you remember all summer when maicon was a real madrid player? It was always "reliable" sources reporting that but lo and behold here he is still wearing black and blue 6 months later.

@Inter Inter, probably not too reliable, but I feel like this is just some exaggerated journalism on the part of the author... possibly just trying to jump the gun on something that will inevitably happen.

Moratti may have made a couple of misteps, but you cannot deny his passion for Inter and almost always putting the club ahead of his own interests. Let's not forget, he has bankrolled this club to levels that fans haven't seen in decades. And coming off a year where Inter won everything in sight, he has my backing. I would say he is the single best President in Serie A, by far. Take it from an Inter fan since 1990, the amount of money and desire he puts into the club is amazing.

As for Rafa, I think Moratti had decided to fire him before the CWC and he is using this as an excuse to do it. Rafa didn't say anything too much out of line really.

no i didn't find rafa's comments out of place. and i don't like how Moratti has dealt with it. I didn't find Rafa to say wrong things. we needed to strengthen in the summer and we didn't... so we need to strengthen now. every inter fan says this, but as soon as Rafa says it it's an "ultimatum" and makes him out to be wrong some how??

I can`t believe this...Personally I would sign immediately for a world of sport without journalists. Even though this article I find to be quite objective, most of articles and reports of the last two days are just ignorant. Just as Moratti is. Seriously, I ask any of you Inter fans, do you find Rafa`s comments to be out of place? And now all of the sudden Moratti is the one who is offended? If that is the case than he has emotional intelligence of a 2 years old child. I would think that Rafa picked the wrong moment if there was those Moratti`s comments (this article pointed them precisely). So you did not deliver promised players (three players exactly - most probably Kuyt, Mascherano, and the third guy is what puzzles me, I have no idea who that might be) and instead of being at least quiet, if you already did not manage to be be supportive (as president should always be, a t least in public), Moratti spited on Rafa week in week out, and now he is expecting that one of the world most famous (I would add also, one of the most skilled, and educated) coaches is saying that he will not tolerate it anymoere????? I mean......??????

I hate the way that Moratti is dealing things...I know he is successful business man (even if he inherited fortune from his father) but in terms of club management he is incapable. I know this is bold statement, and that it comes after historical year, but I believe that it is true.

So Alex Ferguson stayed at Man Utd bench at least one game more than Matt Busby. For us Inter fans that is Sci Fi. I know that it is rarely anywhere in the world to find coach that is so long on the bench, but i think that is even harder to find a club who had more coaches than Inter did in M. Moratti era. Same goes for players. If you watched BBC Mourinho`s interview with Lineker than you know that Inter approached Mourinho after he won CL with Porto, and he turned down us, because he wanted stability, some time to implement his ideas, and how do we know that Inter was the "major Italian club" who approached him? Because he said (after Lineker asked him for the name of the club) that is club who change coach every year.

Than the way how Moratti is dealing with people. Yes we all know for Kanu, for Burdisso`s daughter, and so on, and I truly respect Moratti`s share in those affairs, but if you watched what happened with Jimenez, or R. Mancini, or Oriali (this hurts the most, at least that is true for me), than that is not behaviour of a gentleman.

But what I dislike the most is that he thinks that he knows the best. Our first results came after he resigned of some positions and let them to the guys who know something about it. I am talking about Branca and Oriali, and even before even though it was more symbolic, of Facchetti case. Before season started Moggi (one of those that I despise, but I believe that he is competent in his job) said that Moratti started to talk to much again. We all can see what are consequences of his foolish words.

We are in need of organizational structure that will provide strength for the club (if you can, find the Zlatan`s interview in his first year at Inter when he is comparing situation in (old) Juventus, where everything was organized to the least detail, and he is just saying that Inter is nowhere near that.

So if Rafa says that we need to improve than I believe him.

P.S.

Because all of you will call me Rafa`s representative (which I am perhaps, if you think of me as a someone who only wants to see his beloved club to be among Europe`s best) I just want to say that Rafa disappointed me with Materazzi case. That is why Jose is the best around. I mean Mariga instead of Materazzi?? Come on Rafa... Only way how I can explain that is that he intentionally want to get rid of Materazzi for something that he has already done...or he is so poor with his personal skills in treating players that I cant believe that...

Forza Inter
