Team and technical director Marco Branca visit Inter defender in hospital.
VERONA - At Verona hospital this afternoon Professor Sergio Turazzi and his neurosurgery team performed an operation on Cristian Chivu following the Inter defender's clash of heads with Chievo's Sergio Pellissier early in the second half of today's Serie A match. The player was fully conscious on his arrival at the hospital. Inter's chief of medical staff Professor Franco Combi was present during the operation.
"The player has suffered a head injury in the right parietal lobe area," explained Turazzi. "The operation was necessary due to the presence of a haematoma, which was drained. The cerebral wall appeared to be unaffected and the neurocranium was reconstructed with the bone of the patient. Everything took place regularly and we are quite confident that the patient can recover without any problems, though it is too soon to say when the patient can leave hospital."
Before entering the operating theatre, where he remained for over an hour, Chivu received a visit from the whole team and technical director Marco Branca.
